Who are we?
Trinity Med Day is an annual fundraising event run by a committee of medical students from Trinity College Dublin, in association with the Trinity Biological Society. In early November 2024, Trinity's medical students will take to the streets of Dublin with the aim of raising much needed funds for our wonderful beneficiaries. Since 2002, the medical school has designated one day a year when students do not have lectures but instead spend the day fundraising for our teaching hospitals from whom we learn so much, both in University and once we graduate.
On the day, over 600 medical students meet up on campus early in the morning, grab breakfast and don 'Med Day' T-shirts. They then spread out to various locations around the city with collection buckets starting from 6am; greeting pedestrians and asking for donations. This collection drive is also supplemented by other fundraisers such as sponsored marathons, busking, bake sales, quizzes and raffles. All money raised from the day is used to fund worthy causes in Trinity-affiliated hospitals. Over the past 23 years, we have raised over €1,000,000 for new health services and medical equipment which benefit patients.

It does not just involve one day either. The Med Day committee also organises more events in the lead up to the day including Med Gala, Med Day Pub Quiz, Med Cup, and an annual Booksale in collaboration with Trinity Biological Society.

Year after year Med Day has helped improve outcomes for patients in the locality, be it by helping purchase new, up-to-date equipment, or by helping to increase awareness of the health issues at hand. Med Day gives us the opportunity to contribute directly towards an improved quality of life for patients and the population as a whole.
Last year TCD Med Day raised over €83,500 for St. James' Hospital: Working on Walking: Getting People with MS & Stroke back Moving Using FES Electrical Stimulation, National Rehabilitation Hospital: Giving Independence to Patients with Assistive Technology Training, Tallaght University Hospital: Purchasing Bodyworks Eve Mannequin Model for Point of Care Ultrasound and Ultrasound Training, St. James' Hospital: Take Home Naloxone Emergency Kit Inclusion Health, Our Lady's Hospice: Giving a Voice to Palliative Care Patients with Technological Communication Aids at OLH, and CHI Crumlin: Development of a Hang-Out Space for Youth Cancer Patients.
We hope to raise just as much for our worthy beneficiaries this year - information on all are available under 'Beneficiaries'.
